There are many opportunities for our undergraduate students to participate in research on campus, of off campus through a variety of programs. Students can also combine their research experiences with Honors College thesis.
College of Engineering Research Experience for Undergraduates
The COE-REU program aims to give undergraduate students an opportunity to directly participate in state-of-the-art research efforts. Students work as Research Assistants with professors and graduate students on a variety of
exciting and interdisciplinary research projects.
Office of Undergraduate Research
The university experience is full of big questions and that's what research is all about. From mentorships to scholarships, the Office of Undergraduate Research can help you on your path as an undergraduate researcher.
USF Honors College
The USF Honors College is located in one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country, one that provides numerous intellectual, cultural, recreational, and social resources. The Honors College provides an exciting experience and a productive learning environment that combines the advantages of a small, highly personalized college with the resources of a large research institution. Outside the classroom, our vibrant Tampa Bay community offers an array of internship and volunteer opportunities.
The Honors College at the University of South Florida is for motivated students, regardless of major. The Honors College program emphasizes the development of thinking, reasoning, analytic and writing skills, which you can apply to an individual research project or original creative work. The Honors College curriculum replaces a significant portion of the University's Foundations of Knowledge requirements, so participating in Honors will not generally increase your workload.
Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Summer Program in Interdisciplinary Environmental Research
Through a grant from the National Science Foundation, students conduct research on water and waste water provision, control and treatment, air quality and pollution, and solid waste management that addresses the sustainability of our natural and built environment to support healthy communities. USF faculty mentors provide the student participants with research opportunities addressing emerging environmental challenges as seen in Tampa, a rapidly urbanizing coastal community. Students also learn to grasp and incorporate ethical and sustainability concepts into your work.
International Research Experiences for Civil & Environmental Engineers
Several programs directed by our department and supported by the National Science Foundation allow our students to travel abroad to perform engineering research.
